It was reconstructed several times, most recently in the 14<sup>th</sup> century, and underwent restorations in the 17<sup>th</sup> and 20<sup>th</sup> centuries. It is of critical importance to the architectural history of Korea; the Nirvana Hall (Geukrakjeon) at Bongjeongsa is the oldest extant wooden building in the country.
