It follows a square plan with a single apse and nave. Built between the 7th and 9th centuries, the interior walls of the church are ornamented with mural paintings inspired by plant vines in a chiefly red and green palette. It is to these mural paintings that the church owes its name, which in Turkish means &ldquo;grape church.&rdquo; The ceiling of the nave likewise presents mural paintings, but of a geometrical nature. The apse contains figural murals depicting Mary holding the infant Christ, and the sides of the nave include images of apostles and saints. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><br />\r\n<span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span lang=\"TR\" style=\"background:white\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#202122\">Sources:</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Üzümlü_Church\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\"><span lang=\"TR\" style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Üzümlü_Church</span></a></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https://www.goreme.com/forgotten-cave-churches.php\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\"><span lang=\"TR\" style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\">https://www.goreme.com/forgotten-cave-churches.php</span></a></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\">&nbsp;</p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><u><span lang=\"TR\" style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\">Further reading:</span></u></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"background:white\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Municchia, A.
