Unlike most other churches of the period in the G&ouml;reme Valley, El Nazar also features niche seats carved into the walls of the church. Also in contrast to several of its contemporaries, El Nazar&rsquo;s program of mural paintings follow a chronological sequence, dedicated to key scenes from the life of Christ. It is not readily apparent when the church fell into disuse; that it was later repurposed to harvest pigeon manure, however, is evident from holes cut for birds to perch in and damages to some of the mural paintings. Restorations were undertaken in 1999 to address these and other damages, and involved the addition of a cement floor to replace the lost earlier floor. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\">&nbsp;</p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><u><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"background:white\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#223751\">Sources: </span></span></span></span></span></u></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https://www.cappadociahistory.com/post/el-nazar-church\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\">https://www.cappadociahistory.com/post/el-nazar-church</span></span></span></a></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https://turkisharchaeonews.net/object/church-evil-eye-el-nazar-kilise-göreme\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\">https://turkisharchaeonews.net/object/church-evil-eye-el-nazar-kilise-göreme</span></span></span></a></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\">&nbsp;</p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><u><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\">Further reading: </span></span></span></u></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"background:white\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Calibri Light&quot;,sans-serif\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Yorulmaz, M., &amp; Ahunbay, Z.
