Excavations of the site were prompted by James Mellaart&rsquo;s discovery of painted sherds on one of the mounds constituting the settlement. the first excavations were made in 1961, and uncovered a chamber (the &ldquo;Plaster Room&rdquo;) with pottery dating the layer to about 4750 BC. Over the course of several subsequent campaigns numerous additional finds were made, both of artifacts, structures, and faunal remains pertaining to the Chalcolithic period. Among the unusual discoveries at Can Hasan were a collection of dozens of frog skeletons as well as numerous pieces of polychrome pottery. Canid skeletons, carbonized grain, obsidian tools, human remains, and beads have also been recovered. Intensive excavations of the site concluded in 1970. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\">&nbsp;</p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><u><span lang=\"TR\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span calibri=\"\" light=\"\" style=\"font-family:\">Sources:</span></span></span></u></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https://www.britannica.com/place/Can-Hasan\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\"><span lang=\"TR\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span calibri=\"\" light=\"\" style=\"font-family:\">https://www.britannica.com/place/Can-Hasan</span></span></span></a></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><a href=\"https://biaa.ac.uk/research/item/name/can-hasan-excavations\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span calibri=\"\" light=\"\" style=\"font-family:\">https://biaa.ac.uk/research/item/name/can-hasan-excavations</span></span></span></a></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\">&nbsp;</p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><u><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span calibri=\"\" light=\"\" style=\"font-family:\">Further reading: </span></span></span></u></span></span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 6pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"tab-stops:194.15pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"background:white\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span calibri=\"\" light=\"\" style=\"font-family:\"><span style=\"color:#222222\">Mellink, M.
