Other information about the sample
- The two samples were inside a plastic container labelled “Göreme or Ihlara?, Turchia, pittura murale. TUR/J/1 and TUR/J/2.” There is no indication of the specific monument. Each sample was placed in a smaller plastic bag with its own label. According to the IC Catalogue, the reference for TUR/J/1 is “Turchia – Göreme – Ihlara – TUBE1-1/2, intonaco con colore nero – a red with brown colour” (IC, p. 33, PN 1076). The reference for TUR/J/2 is “Turchia – Göreme – Ihlara – TUBE1-1/1, intonaco con colore nero” (IC, p. 33, PN 1077). The labels refer to two different sites (Göreme and Ihlara). In the Ihlara Valley, Yılanlı Church is located, while in the Göreme Valley there are several churches that were also conserved by ICCROM (Elmalı, Çarıklı, Tokalı, El Nazar, and Karanlık). Until further information regarding the provenance, the samples are classified as unknown.
